Toyota Cheap Hybrid car

Prius Best Hybrid For the Money - Cars.com
The Toyota Prius continues to be the king of hybrid cars because its the best hybrid vehicle for the Money.Surprise, surprise - not!

Cars.com has published its list of Best Hybrids for the Money and the Toyota Prius is the Best Hybrid for the Money. I guess that's why it continues to far outsell all other hybrids.

The other hybrid vehicles on the list, based on size and class, aren't too surprising either since there really isn't much competition in each class quite yet.

Prius, Volt and some simple EV economics
Toyota Prius, Chevy Volt or a pure battery powered electric vehicle? Which is more cost-effective? Which is more appealing to consumers? Ultimately, hybrid cars and electric vehicles will both make sense to consumers, but are all automakers ready to deliver both?Plain and simple cost effectiveness

Later this Spring Toyota will begin rolling out the much anticipated 2010 Toyota Prius. At 50 mpg, the average Prius driver will spend less then $600 per year on fuel. After 5 years that's less than $3000. After 10 it's less than $6000.

So, let's say $22,000 for the base Prius + $6000 in fuel costs after 10 years and that's $28,000.

The Chevy Volt, on the other hand, is probably going to cost a bit over $30,000, after the $7,500 tax credit. So, say the Volt is $33,000 and it only uses electric power its entire life, resulting in a $1000 fuel cost after 10 years. That still makes the Volt $6,000 more expensive than the Prius. So, it would take $4.00 gas to bring simple equality.

Unfortunately, the $7500 tax credit is not going to last long relatively speaking. Most Volt buyers, if the Volt is a success, won't qualify for any tax credit.

Great time to buy a Honda Civic hybrid?
It's a great time deals on hybrid cars. If you've been contemplating a new hybrid, now might be the best time ever to buy a new hybrid car. Some interesting deals for hybrid buyers

The other day Smurf, a fellow blogger, went out to buy a Honda Insight hybrid. However, since his local Honda dealer had few Insight hybrids and many Civic hybrids, his salesman made him an offer he couldn't refuse - a Civic hybrid discounted $2000 less than the best deal for an Insight hybrid.

These are great days for the buyers of hybrid cars, as new hybrids come to market in one of the worst auto sales markets ever. Expect these deals to become even more interesting once the 2010 Toyota Prius comes to market.

However, shopping around will make a lot of sense. I've already heard of $4500 dealer markups on the Insight hybrid. So watch out.

2010 Third Gen Prius for $20,750
2010 third generation Toyota Prius pricing. What a deal?

Last week rumors leaked out of Japan that Toyota was going to price the third generation Toyota Prius much lower than most were anticipating. According to the latest reports, Toyota will sell the base 2010 Prius for $20,750, at least in Japan. A fully loaded third generation Prius will cost about $33,110.

Moreover, Toyota will continue to sell the current Prius, with an interior redesign, for $19,130.

Again, these are the translated US prices based on the Japanese price. Neither these prices, nor US pricing, has been officially confirmed by Toyota.

Most people spend years paying off their car loans. Many new cars cost tens of thousands of dollars, and interest rates can make financing a car expensive. But what if you could purchase a brand new car for about the same as just six months' rent? And by the way -- have you ever thought about moving to India?

One of the most anticipated cars of 2008 also turns out to be the cheapest car in the world. At only $2,500 before taxes, auto manufacturer Tata Motors' Nano will come to the streets of India by fall 2008. Ratan Tata, the chairman of the company that brought the tiny car to life, refers to the Nano as the "People's Car," and he wants to give those who might not be able to afford a new car the chance to take advantage of mobility. The company is marketing the affordable car to India's lower middle class, who only make about $200 a month [source: Time].

Tata looks to accomplish the same thing Nicholas Negroponte did with the $100 laptop. By offering one of today's ubiquitous pieces of technology at a low price, Tata hopes to give everyone a fair chance at making a living, regardless of a person's economic background. But just like the laptop, the Nano is already receiving a fair deal of criticism. India already makes 1.3 million cars per year, and Business Week expects that number to grow 12 percent annually [source: Business Week]. With roads already suffering from excessive traffic congestion and pollution in cities contributing to global warming, the idea of more cars throughout India makes some people skeptical.

How fast will the Nano go? What kinds of emission standards does the vehicle meet? What did Tatan Motors do to offer the car for such a low price? If it's so cheap, will it be safer than the G-Wiz? Read the next page to find out.

Toyota Aygo (2005 - To Date) summary car review
EYE-CATCHING AYGO
Just when we thought the Yaris was the definitive small Toyota, the Japanese company brought us the Aygo. Cheeky, smart and keenly priced, the Aygo was one third of a partnership that also produced the Citroën C1 and the Peugeot 107. Had Toyota risked their impeccable build quality record for a quick hit? It would seem not as Aygo owners seem very satisfied with their cars. Used examples are available if you search for them and they’re well worth tracking down. (full review)

Ford's $20,000 hybrid?
Where is Ford's $20,000 hybrid vehicle to contend with the Toyota Prius and the Honda Insight? Ford could gain a lot with small hybrid cars, such as the Ford Focus hybrid.Ford's third gen Focus

I was checking out new pictures of the third generation Ford Focus on MotorTrend, and I couldn't help but think, why not make the Focus Ford's Honda Insight and Toyota Prius contender?

Imagine a $20,000 American hybrid!?

Hello! You wouldn't be able to keep it in stock. Even if the car lost money per unit for the next few years, imagine the traffic it would bring into showrooms. Imagine the positive press. And, eventually it would make a nice profit.

Make the gas version the econ model. Offer the hybrid in medium and luxury level trims. Maybe do the same for an EV version.

Isn't that the kind of choice America's freedom from foreign oil requires?

Toyota RAV4

Toyota RAV4
The sporty compact SUV is the cheapest car here, but loaded with kit

March 2008
The RAV4 can rightly claim to be the model that created the sporty compact SUV segment. Toyota has sold more than two million examples worldwide over three generations, but newer and sharper rivals have stolen the limelight, and the model is fast becoming the forgotten car of the class.

However, it’s still a natural rival for the Tiguan. Of the opponents lined up here, its dimensions are closest to the VW’s, and it shares the German car’s sense of solidity. This XT-R model has chromed grille bars and an under-bumper protection plate, but the RAV4’s styling, which is an evolution of previous models, isn’t as modern as the Honda’s, for example.

The interior fares better, as it’s well built and hard to fault. Silver plastic trim brightens the centre console, and the two-tier layout is straightforward, with easy-to-use radio and climate control buttons.

Unlike the other cars here, the RAV4’s handbrake and gearlever are in a conventional position next to the driver. There isn’t as much seat and wheel adjustment as in the Tiguan, but there’s still a decent sense of space behind the wheel.

In the back, the seats split 60:40 and slide back and forth, which is just as well, because the Toyota has the shortest wheelbase here and offers the least legroom. Crucially, though, there’s a flat transmission tunnel, so the middle seat is more accommodating than the VW’s.

Handy ‘pull-and-drop’ one-touch levers in the boot and on the seat backs fold the rear chairs flat in one action, but even with the seats in place, the Toyota has the biggest boot capacity on test. On the downside, the side-hinged rear door is awkward to use if there are cars parked behind, and the boot is cheaply trimmed.

However, the RAV4 was always supposed to be a compact 4x4 that traded on its sense of fun rather than outright practicality. It has a reputation as the one of the most driver-oriented SUVs, which you might find surprising, considering so few of the firm’s other models have a reputation for delivering much in the way of excitement.

Nevertheless, the current RAV4 maintains the appeal of its predecessors. The handling isn’t quite as car-like as the VW’s and it’s not brimming with feedback, but body lean is well controlled and the steering is sharp and direct, while the RAV4 is agile and inspires confidence.

Sadly, it’s rather less accomplished on the motorway, where the firmly sprung chassis doesn’t settle into a relaxed stride as easily as the Honda. The Toyota’s suspension fidgets over imperfections, and you’re more aware of bumps than you are in the Tiguan.

At 310Nm, the RAV4’s 2.2-litre diesel has the lowest torque output here, and at 11 seconds it’s the slowest from 0-60mph. Throttle response is lazy compared with the CR-V, but the slick six-speed gearbox and light clutch are easy to use. However, the D-4D unit simply doesn’t have the punch of its rivals on this test.

The RAV4 is the cheapest car here, though, and this XT-R trim comes with lots of standard equipment. A driver’s knee airbag, parking sensors, heated folding door mirrors, an electric sunroof, six-disc CD changer, Bluetooth phone connection and cruise control are all included. Can this lengthy kit list help to propel the Toyota to the top spot?

Gas prices are rising and falling... and rising again and falling again. Small fuel-efficient cars, or econoboxes, offer a golden opportunity to become immune to this yo-yo. Since 2004, the Toyota Yaris has been dominating the market, easily overtaking such rivals as the Hyundai Accent and Nissan Versa.

People buy the Toyota Yaris not just for the sake of buying a cheap car, but because they love it! This econobox now enjoys cult-like popularity.

Back in 2001, there were only four models in this segment. In recent years, however, there's been an explosion with regard to the number of alternatives and the overall sales figures. The end is nowhere near; in fact, other models will soon join the party, like the new Ford Fiesta.

With that in mind, I was handed the keys to a 2009 Toyota Yaris Hatchback LE, which is the base model in 5-door configuration. The higher-end RS essentially stands out with a couple of added features and, of course, a $4,500 premium.

The Yaris lineup also includes a 4-door sedan which appeals to more conservative customers. The car is 48-centimeter longer overall, yet the interior lacks the versatility of the hatchback. Besides, it does not sport the same facial expression as the latter.

More versatile
Truth be told, it's easy to fall in love with the 5-door Yaris. The cutesy look and practical ways make it more attractive than a plain-looking sedan with a narrow trunk opening.

In the hatchback, the 60/40 split rear seats fold in a flash to accommodate large items, like a plasma TV. Don't even think about it if you're using the sedan!

As a matter of fact, folding the seatbacks triples the available cargo room (from 228 to 728 liters). Granted, the maximum capacity of a Honda Fit is more than double (1,622 L) and the new Chevrolet Aveo5 can hold up to 1,190 liters, but if you have to choose between the Yaris Hatchback and Sedan (with a trunk of only 365 liters), the decision is pretty easy.

The versatile trunk of the Yaris Hatchback is easily accessible and, while the cargo capacity might not be the largest in the segment, it's still pretty decent.

Toyota Vios

New Toyota Vios 2008

Wed, Nov 5, 2008 by nuklear

Automotive

Toyota wants to push stronger into the South East Asian and Chinese markets. It has built its new 4-door subcompact sedan for this specific purpose.

Toyota Vios 2008 looks to replace Toyota Soluna which has done well in the 1.5 liter subcompact market for Asia. Few years ago, Soluna was rated just below Toyota Camry and Toyota Corolla.

US love its Vios. There it is known as Toyota Yaris hatchback or Toyota Belta.

Toyota Vios is found in three grades. The most economical grade is the ‘E’ grade. It is a relatively cheap, beginner’s model available at around RM 78900. This grade finds the car in its most stripped form; unlike G and S which are state-of-art models.

Vios E grade has rear drum brakes instead of the all-disc set up available for the G and S grades. It has14 inch alloy wheels; this again is an inch lesser than what the G and S models have to offer. The advanced grades have dual-front airbags whereas the E variant has a side only air-bag.

Vios line has lately introduced the S grade. It is replete with appearance enhancements. Performance wise it is just as good as the G grade or perhaps only a shade better.
